Spring Cleaning Your Hot Tub
Pool Maintenance
Your spa has kept you warm all winter long, providing hours of family bonding and relaxation. And the good times can last year-round—as long as you keep your hot tub in tip-top shape. Thankfully, spring cleaning a Sundance® spa is simple. We’ll show you how.
- Drain the Spa
To drain the water from your spa, turn off the power, unscrew the drain valve cap, and attach a garden hose to the drain fitting. Direct the hose to a safe drainage area—preferably not your lawn—and let gravity take over. Once the process is complete, close the drain valve, remove the garden hose, and replace the drain cap. For a quicker process, our 980™ Series and 880™ Series models include Quick Drain™, a built-in oversized drain that saves time and makes water change easy.
- Clean the Cabinet
To keep your hot tub cabinet (also known as a skirt) looking its best, wipe it down with a clean towel and a mild soap solution. Never spray the skirt with a high-pressure garden hose, since this may induce an electrical short in the spa.
- Wipe Down the Shell
Now that your hot tub is empty, clean the inside with a nonabrasive, non-sudsy cleaning solution. Afterward, rinse the shell thoroughly to eliminate any residue from the solution, which could cause sudsing when you refill the spa.
- Replace the Filters
Remove and rinse the filters thoroughly, and replace them regularly with filters designed for your particular spa model. Different filters require different maintenance, so check your owner’s manual or talk to your hot tub dealer to ensure proper care.
- Refill the Spa
To refill your hot tub, remove the filter lid and cartridge from the filter bucket, and then place a garden hose in the empty filter bucket. Fill the hot tub until the water covers all the jets but does not touch the bottom of the lowest headrest. Then, remove the hose and replace the filter cartridge.
- Refresh the Pillows
Before adding a chemical shock treatment, remove any pillows and return them when the sanitizer reading is stable. Clean pillows with a warm, soapy water and a soft brush or cloth. If the pillows have seen better days, replace them with brand new Sundance® pillows, which are 100 percent waterproof and boast the latest injection molding technology.
- Treat the Water
Now it’s time to test and treat the water with the chemicals recommended for your spa model. Always maintain a constant sanitizer reading. You can also simplify care with SunPurity™ PLUS, a water enhancer that leaves spa water clean and balanced for a longer period of time.
- Clean (and Inspect) the Cover
Finally, clean and condition your cover with Sundance® Spas Spa Cover Conditioner so it can continue to protect your hot tub for years to come. Use a garden hose to loosen dirt and debris, scrub the top of the cover with mild soap and a large sponge or soft-bristle brush, and rinse it clean. If you spy any rips or tears in your hot tub cover, it’s time to invest in a new one.
Your spa is designed to provide you with the utmost relaxation and rejuvenation. And with the proper spring cleaning and routine care, you
